Aaron und Bryce Dessner, die beiden Zwillingsbrüder und Gitarristen von The National kündigen die Veröffentlichung eines Großprojekts an: Ein Tribut-Album zu Ehren von Grateful Dead. Alle Erlöse werden, wie schon bei der Compilation „Dark Was the Night“, an die gemeinnützige Organisation Red Hot, die Aufklärungsarbeit bzgl HIV und AIDS leistet.
Insgesamt werden auf „Day of the Dead“ 59 Songs vertreten sein, die zusammen ungefähr sechs Stunden umfassen. Dabei ist eine Reihe namhafter Künstler u.a. Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett, Angel Olsen, Charles Bradley, Unknown Mortal Orchestra und natürlich The National. Hier die volle Tracklist:
