Nine Inch Nails: Endlich frei

Radiohead sind, obwohl sie heute ihr neues Album “In Rainbows” ohne Plattenlabel, zum Preis unserer Wahl und bisher nur zum Download veröffentlicht haben, auf der Suche nach einem neuem Label.

Trent Reznor, Gründer und einziges offizielles Mitglied des Musikprojektes Nine Inch Nails (kurz NIИ) sucht nicht (mehr). Mit großer Freude hat er nämlich vor zwei Tagen auf der Nine Inch Nails Webseite verkündet, nach 18 Jahren unter Vertrag nun endlich eine direkte Beziehung mit seinem Publikum eingehen kann. Also nix mehr mit Plattenfirma und so, ab sofort wird nur noch unabhängig veröffentlicht.

Erst kürzlich hat Reznor, seine australischen Fans dazu ermuntert, NIИ Musik zu tauschen oder zu klauen, nachdem er entdeckt hatte, dass die neue Scheibe “Year Zero” in Australien für 30 US $ verkauft wird. (Quelle: Nine Inch Nails Celebrates Free Agent Status)

Update: Links um interessante Artikel zum Thema angereichert. Gerade die Milchmädchenrechnung stützt meine These, dass sich die neue Wegen von Radiohead, Prince und Co. sich nicht in der breiten Masse durchsetzen werden.

Auch Oasis und Jamiroquai wollen dem “pay as you wish” Prinzip von Radiohead angeblich folgen.

    Yesterday, Alan McGee, the manager of the Charlatans, said he was astonished by how popular the experiment was proving, even though fans were not yet able to download the album.

    “The record industry is obsessed by age and fashion. And so you get these amazing British bands like the Charlatans and the Happy Mondays that were massive 10 years ago and are still great, but are out of contract. How do you get them profile? You give away the record.”

    He said that the initial feedback had been so positive that the he was already considering booking larger venues for the band to play in when they tour next year. “This experiment is going to work, I feel,” he said, adding he was confident that merchandise and concert tickets will make up for giving away the free album for free.
